Some ideas for kids to make crafts this Christmas season!

Christmas is a wonderfully special time for kids. They look forward to getting presents and helping to decorate the tree and the house for this special season. They can even help to decorate the Christmas tree and the house by making some easy crafts which are designed just for them.

One craft resembles a small, slightly fat Christmas tree which can be set on a table, mantle, or shelf. This is especially designed for smaller children. To make this, kids will need some small, thick, book-like magazines. The Reader's Digest works well for this project. Open the magazine and begin folding the right corner of each page down twice so it makes a triangular shape. Do this with every page. When all of the pages have been folded down, fold down the front as well as the back covers and glue or tape them together. Next, an adult will need to spray paint each tree gold in color. Make sure to cover all of the pages. Let the tree dry thoroughly. Then, have the kids cut out different shapes such as candy canes, stars, bells, and other Christmas shapes out of gift wrap paper. When the painted tree is completely dry, the kids can then attach the decorations all over the tree by using double-sided tape. Finally, cut out two large red stars out of Christmas gift wrap. Place a tooth pick in between the star cut outs, in the middle, and then glue the stars together. When they are dry, fasten them into the tree top by sticking the tooth pick into the tops of magazines.

Another craft idea is for kids to make Christmas wreaths. These are made with construction paper of different colors. Kids simply cut out different shapes that are related to the Christmas season in some way. These shapes can include stars, Christmas trees, candy canes, bells, garland, angels, and Santa Clauses, just to name a few ideas. Make sure the cut outs are all about the same size. Next, have the kids place their cut outs and thenglue them together to make a round wreath. The size of the weath will depend on how many cut outs the kids make, the size of the cut outs, and how close together they put them. Finally, the kids can personalize their wreaths with crayons, magic markers, glitter, ribbons, and other decorations. Don't forget to make hangers for the wreaths so they can be displayed by hanging them up.

Another craft idea that is very easy is to use Play Dough, cookie cutters, and craft paints. Simply have the kids roll the Play Dough out onto a piece of waxed paper. Don't rollit very thin; keep it kind of thick. Now, using the cookie cutters, cut out various holiday shapes. Use a nail and carefully make a hole in the top of each shape after it is cut out. Let the shapes dry thoroughly and then decorate each one with the craft paints. Each kid can also paint their name and the date on the back of the shapes they make so they can be kept for keepsakes. Tie pretty ribbons through each hole and tie the ends together. Now the kids can hang them on the Christmas tree to add their personal touch to the tree.
