Easter is definitely a day to celebrate. Not only does it mark the coming of spring, in all its gorgeous flower-filled glory, but it also marks the resurrection of Christ for those who practice Christianity. From its beginnings as a pagan holiday to its much more commercialized form today, Easter has always been a time to celebrate new beginnings. If you plan on throwing an Easter party, here are some party ideas that may help inspire you.

Naturally, with all the hunting of eggs and the running around, both adults and children will work up an appetite. While a sit-down Easter dinner complete with a pineapple-glazed ham is the usual tradition, sometimes it just isn’t an option when time and number of guests are factors. Instead, try something a little fun and Easter-Bunny-inspired and get a couple of wicker baskets from a crafts store. Line the inside with paper towels or some inexpensive cloth napkins and fill them with some tasty appetizers and easy-to-eat-and-carry desserts like brownies and cookies. Place these food-filled baskets around the house for people to nibble on while at the party.

Whether you are having a party for adults or children, there is nothing quite as fun as a good old-fashioned treasure hunt. Instead of just tossing some eggs and candy out in the backyard for an Easter egg hunt, create a neighborhood-wide treasure hunt. Start off with one clue and have the party guests travel throughout the neighborhood (you can get the help from friendly neighbors for this game) picking up additional clues. If the treasure hunt is for children, make sure at least one adult travels with each group for safety. The group that finds the “treasure” first can be greeted with a basket of gift cards or chocolate bunnies, while all the other groups will get honorary baskets full of candies and other prizes

Party decorations are what hosts often panic about at the last minute. To be quite honest, most party-goers would be hard-pressed to remember any decorations at a party, as long as the food is good and the conversation is fun. To celebrate this spring-theme, put up several glass vases throughout the party area and fill them with colorful and bright flowers, like tulips and daffodils. The brighter the flowers are the better! You can even get a few petals and throw them on the buffet table for some extra color.

If you want your guests to leave with a little token of your appreciation, why not leave them with something they can enjoy for many months (or even years) to come? At a local crafts store, purchase small clay pots (they usually come in a wide range of sizes for minimal expense). Decorate the pots using paints or colorful ribbons and raffia. Fill the pots with potting soil and then plant some seeds in each pot. On a colorful piece of paper, write down what is planted in the pot and directions on how to care for the plant that will soon bloom. Your guests will be thrilled with their party favors and remember you and your kindness each time they see their blossoming plant or flower.
